Implementing Big Data in Supply Chain and Logistics

After the pandemic period followed by the war in Ukraine and recently by the war in Red sea, there is a great concern regarding the crisis in transportation and logistics in general that appeared. The same time the governments have to deal with the challenge of food security due to the increase in food raw material prices. Experts involved in logistics require to evaluate a huge amount of information / data so as to take the right decisions and safely and on time deliver goods to their destination. The project aims to transfer the basic knowledge to professionals involved in Logistics sector the value of Big Data Analytics and how these can be used in decision making. The results expected to be achieved are the following:
1) Development of training material for logistics professionals and conduct of training sessions of 10 hours training for Greek and Turkish trainees. The material will be based on recent trends on this subject. Most of the references are recently published, in fact in 2023 due to the unstable situation in the global market. The material will gather all this information on a scientific basis and reform them to a training material. Material based on ongoing courses available from Baskent University will be upgraded and modified to support the material for non Higher Educations trainees.
2) Evaluation of the level / knowledge of professionals on the subject before and after the training. This evaluation is very important considering that even today most professionals have an empirical knowledge and is not science based, consequently they lack of certified skills which are of high demand. In the existing skills’ certification schemes the big data “chapter” is not included either in European or UK or USA. Considering that another main project result will be:
3) Curriculum and requirements for logisticians willing to be certified as Big Data in Logistics skilled professionals. This result will be communicated to national Professional / Sectoral Chambers for reference.
The training material will be available both in digital and hard copy form, to be used in training with natural presence and by e-learning. The second is more attractive to younger professionals and people who do not have access to training facilities.
Through this the partnership will provide the accessibility essential to potential trainees with less opportunities for training and education.
4) Training platform accessible to all, with the information related to the project such description, partnership, results, training material etc

As the Big Data concept becomes a major part of every worker’s everyday life and the decisions within the supply chain become more frequent, complicated and time constrained, the organizations that use Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to transfer the responsibility of making decisions not from their personnel and the same time enable their people to make the decisions based on accurate and well defined predictions will survive in the new competitive environment. Based on this principle the project target groups are:
1) Professionals already involved in the logistics sector and these are: Business Improvement Specialists, Supply Chain Managers, Operation Managers, Project Managers, Finance Managers, IT Managers, Consultants in the field of logistics 2) Recently logistics’ graduates in the use of Big data analytics in logistics and provide an unofficial certification of a skill according to the curriculum that will result form this project. This applies also to professionals. For the first group the main scope is to fill the gap due to luck of structured training in both countries and the for the second to prepare the professional of the next generation.
However, the partnership will do the appropriate efforts to access trainees from SMEs located in less developed areas with employees with limited access to training. Professionals located in urban areas and occupied in large logistics’ companies do have access in VET training in various topics regarding the logistics sector. The proposal aim to those who are not able to attend due to limited accessibility to training centers. The partnership is already in cooperation with municipalities based trade hubs who will welcome the effort. The NA will be informed by the initiation of the project for these areas so as to define
the exact area of training events.
